Your kids will better understand Allah’s essence if you started by telling them that everything around us, including themselves, is created and didn’t come from a void.

They’ll be curious to know who could’ve possibly created all these wonderful things and that’s when you first mention “Allah”.

Teaching them the names of Allah will be a great help too. That’ll get them closer to everything we refer to when we say, Allah.

Time for immersion

When they get familiar with the concept of The Creator, they will be ready to look around and inspect how everything was created, and why.

How Do You Impart Allah's Love In Kids?

Before you learn how to do this remember that the love of Allah is already a part of our fitrah (innate nature) and your job is to nourish it and help them discover it.

Tell them Allah loves them

In order to awaken that love of Allah faster, you must tell them that Allah loves them more than anyone on this earth. Using the previously mentioned method of simplifying concepts, try to explain that Hadith to them:

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, Allah divided Mercy into one hundred parts. He kept ninety-nine parts with Him and sent down one part to the earth, and because of that, its one single part, His Creations are merciful to each other, so that even the mare lifts up its hoofs away from its baby animal, lest it should trample on it.” [Bukhari]

Mention reasons why you love Allah

A huge part of this task is on you to keep talking about actual reasons why you love Allah and avoid big words they can’t comprehend. Stick with reasons they can relate to. They will naturally follow if they constantly hear you talk about how much you love Allah and most importantly why.

Point out the blessings of Allah

It is critical to constantly remind them of Allah’s blessings, as they will naturally become grateful and recognize Him as the Bestower of all gifts. The One who is Merciful and Loving enough to shower us with bounties indefinitely.

For a little practice, play a game called “count blessings” where you ask your kid what they’re grateful for. The list will probably include loving parents, pets, nice clothes, and of course toys! After they’re done you must draw their attention to how Allah sent all these blessings because He loves us.

Talk about Jannah (heaven)

When they fully understand how much Allah loves them, start telling them about Jannah and how wonderful Allah made it for us to spend internity in. Work your imagination and make it seem like a dreamland for them.

Telling them that there are more wonderful things to come will make them feel grateful for how Allah is granting them all these amazing things. Later on, they will understand what they need to do to get into Jannah and it won’t feel like homework to them; they’ll obey Allah because they want to.

Here are some steps you can consider when you start teaching Quran to your kids:

  1. Choose a Qaida for your child. Find a good book and stick to it so your child becomes accustomed to it. Look for Tajweed parts that are color-coded in order to assist your kid.
  2. Use interactive learning. Nowadays learning includes videos, games, slideshows, and audiobooks. Pick your kid’s favorite method of learning and apply it to Quran.
  3. Make sure your kid can correctly say all the words. Assist them in practicing this a few times per word. When you believe they have mastered it, move on to the next one.
  4. Make a daily revision. Every day, they must read the lesson (or line) that they are on plus the previous lesson, before moving to the new line.
  5. Make a Weekly Revision. At the end of every week, they must revise the last learned pages. This helps to ensure that their reading is faster by the time they start the Quran and they didn’t forget what they’ve been learning all week.
