How many Sajda in Quran? | Noor Academy

Sajda in Quran
There are 15 Sajda in Quran, whenever you meet a Sajdah when reciting the holy Quran, you should perform prostration.

It’s also called prostration of recitation because prostration is performed when passing by a Sajdah. The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said the following about the importance of prostration of recitation:
“Once, a person prostrates himself after reading a verse requiring the performance of sajdah, the shaitan starts crying and wailing in a corner, saying: ‘Alas! The children of Adam were enjoined to perform sajdah and they carried it out, and become entitled to enter Paradise, but I refused to do so and was condemned to Hell.’”
Performing the prostration of recitation is wajib. You can perform it right away or perform it later the decision is yours but don’t forget to perform it.

Now let’s see the Sajda verses.

Is Sajdah Tilawat obligatory?
There are different views regarding the matter, Abu Hanifa said that it’s obligatory. While Malik and al-Shafi’I said that it was a sunnah.

The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
“ During recitation whenever a person outreach to the point of Sajdah Tilawat, and he performs prostration then the evil (shaitaan) shout and detaches himself from that person and howl, “O Disaster! When he was asked to do Sajdah, he did, thus for him, there are the gardens in Jannah. But when I was instructed to do Sajdah, I did not do, and for me, there is hellfire”.
How to identify Sajda in Quran?

What are the three types of sajdah?
The three types of Sujood beside the Prayer Sajdah are:

  1.     Sujood al-Tilaawah.
  2.     Sajdah of Gratitude.

It was narrated by Abu Bakr RadhiAllahu that the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) used to perform prostration whenever he receives good news to thank Allah. Sujood al-Shukr is a sunnah, and it doesn’t have any conditions to perform.

  1.     Sajdah for Omission or Oversight. This Sujood is performed when the person forgets to perform something while praying.

Sajda in Quran Dua.
Here’s the Dua to recite while performing Sajda in Quran.

Sajada wajhiya lillathee khalaqahu, wa shaqqa sam’ahu wa basarahu bihawlihi wa quwwatihi. Fatabaarakallaahu ‘ahsanul-khaaliqeen.

I have prostrated my face to the One Who created it and gave it hearing and sight by His might and His power. Glory is to Allah, the Best of creators.
