surah feel by mishary al afasy
What is the main theme of surah feel?
In this surah, we can see how Allah punished the people of the elephant because they wanted to destroy the Ka’bah. Thinking that their number will be more than enough, what they didn’t think of is that they were facing Allah, no matter how many of them are there no one can defeat Allah. Their number and strength are nothing compared to Allah.
So, surah al feel story shows us that the Ka’bah is protected by Allah and no one can destroy it.
So the primary subject of the surah is the historical event when Abrahah the governor of Yemen lead an army accompanied by elephants to attack mecca with the intention to destroy the Ka’bah that’s why Allah protect the Ka’bah and sent a flock of birds attacking the army with stones of سِجِّيلٍ.
Here is the explanation of some of the terms found in Surat Alfil:
-
Birds Ababil
This refers to the birds attacking the army that was sent to destroy the Ka’bah. And the word Ababil means a group or crowd. So, the bird Ababil means a group of birds. Or could also mean that the group of birds is coming from different directions.
-
Sijjil
The word Sijjil means the hard and solid stones some say that it was from clay and sand.
-
Asf Ma’kul
This refers to the wheat leaves.

what is surah al feel tafseer?
Here is Surah al feel tafseer
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـبِ الْفِيلِ
“Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the Owners of the Elephant?”
Allah started the surah with the question “Have you not seen..” as a direct address to not just the prophet but to all people who saw the event with their own eyes, how Allah defeated the people of the elephant.
أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍ
“Did He not make their plot go astray?”
In this verse, Allah shows us that the people of the elephant had a secret plan which is to destroy the Ka`abah, defeat the Quraysh, and scare the Arabians to take control over the major trade route that led from south Arabia to Syria and Egypt. And Allah knew their secret plan and stopped it.
وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْراً أَبَابِيلَ – تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
“And He sent against them birds, in flocks (Ababil). Striking them with stones of Sijjil.”
As we discussed above the Birds Ababil means a group of birds coming from different directions. The birds attacked the people elephants with stones of Sijjil and defeated them.
فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍۭ
“And He made them like eaten straw”.
The word asf means the outer covering of seeds, which the farmer throws away after the grain has been separated from it. Then the animals eat it, and some of it falls down in the chewing and some are trampled under the hoofs. So the flocks of birds showered the army with stones and killed each of the individuals. In this ayah, Allah gave the resemblance of their bodies with the husk of grain, which has been chewed by cattle.
