Why was surah Furqan revealed? Surah Furqan was revealed at a time when the prophet and his followers were going through so much harm and hardships caused by the people of Quraish. It was revealed to warn the disbelievers of their punishment and what will happen to them for their denial of the prophet and saying that the holy Quran is nothing but a myth of the ancients.
What is surah Furqan about?
The main topics discussed in the surah include:

1-     Showing that Allah revealed the Quran to guide humans in their lives and to show us what’s right from wrong.

2-     Allah created heavens and earth and he doesn’t have a son or a partner as they claim.

3-     Telling the disbelievers that the gods that they have created by themselves can’t create anything, or do any harm. Additionally, they can’t control death nor life nor resurrection.

4-     The disbeliever’s Denial of the truth that is right in front of them, not believing the prophet, the Quran, and the day of judgment.

5-     The disbelievers will regret not believing the prophet and following him. They will wish if they had followed the right path.

6-     Description of the true believers.
Where was surah Furqan revealed?
Sourate al Furqan was revealed in Mecca before the migration to Madinah, it is the surah number 42 in the order of revelation. It was revealed before surah Al-Maarij. And after surah Yasin. Al-Furqan surah is the surah number 25 in the holy Quran and is found in the juz number 18 and ends in Juz number 19.

 When was surah Furqan revealed?

Surah Al-Furqan was revealed in the tenth year of revelation when the prophet and his follower were going through so many hardships because of the disbelievers.
Why the surah was named Al-Furqan?
The surah was named Al-Furqan after its first verse, and the word was mentioned three times in the surah. The word Furqan itself means “distinguishing between the right from wrong”.

Here’s the first verse where the word Furqan is mentioned:

  1. تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا

“Blessed is the One Who sent down the Standard1 to His servant,2 so that he may be a warner to the whole world.”

“Tabaarakal lazee nazzalal Furqaana ‘alaa ‘abdihee li yakoona lil’aalameena nazeera”
What is the main theme of surah al Furqan?
The subject discussed in surah Al-Furqan includes the disbelievers not believing the prophet and that the holy Quran is revealed by Allah. Allah showed the disbelievers many things to show them that prophet was sent by Allah to guide them to the right path. And warning them of what will happen to them on the day of judgment and how they will wish they had believed the prophet and followed him.

At the end of the surah, there is a description of the true believers, as Allah said: And those who pray, “Our Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous.

Those are the ones who will be rewarded with the highest place in heaven, because of their patient constancy: therein shall they be met with salutations and peace, Dwelling therein; how beautiful an abode and place of rest!”

And Also in the following verses:

“Those who spend the night in adoration of their Lord prostrate and standing;

Those who say, “Our Lord! avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,-

“Evil indeed is it as an abode, and as a place to rest in”;

Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes);

Those who invoke not, with Allah, any other god, nor slay such life as Allah has made sacred except for just cause, nor commit fornication; – and any that does this (not only) meets punishment.”
Benefits of Surah Furqan
The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said about the benefits of reciting Surah Furqan: “Whoever recites surah Furqan will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment while he has faith in the Day of Judgment and the resurrection of the dead from their graves. He will enter paradise without being held accountable for his deeds.”

The one who recites the surah will be saved from the punishment of the day of judgment, and go to heaven. Musa ibn Ja‘far al-Kāẓim has said, “Do not abandon recitation of surah Furqan because whoever recites it at night, Allah will never punish him nor hold him accountable for his deeds, and Allah will admit him into paradise.”

If you suffer from shortness of breath recite verse number 11 and Allah will heal you.

Also, it is said if someone wishes to get married he/she should fast for three days, and every night before sleeping he/she should recite verses number 74-76 of surah Al-Furqan 21 times and ask Allah to grant his/her wish. And Allah shall grant the person’s wish.
Is surah al Furqan makki or madani?
Surah Al-Furqan is a Makki Surah, it was revealed in Mecca. It was revealed to the prophet in Mecca before the migration to Madina. It was revealed before surah Al-Maarij. And after surah Yasin.
In which Para is surah Al-Furqan?
Surah al Furqan starts in para number 18 and ends in the juz number 19.
How to memorize surah Al-Furqan?
To memorize surah Furqan the first thing you should do is to read the full surah slowly. Then take the first verse and repeat it a couple of times, when you finish, try to recite it by heart. When you make it move to the second verse and repeat the process. When you finish memorizing it, try to recite the two verses by heart, and if you succeed go to the next verse, and when you finish the third verse recite the three verses by heart and do the same until you memorize the full surah.
Hadith on surah Al-Furqan
Muslim narrated that Abu Umamah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, say: “Read the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions. Or two flocks of swarming birds arguing on behalf of their companions. Recite Surat Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing and leaving it is a regret, and the heroine cannot do it.”

Surah Furqan Dua
Here are some of the Duas from Surah Furqan:

27:  ”O our Lord! turn away from us the punishment of Hell,

surely the punishment thereof is a lasting (66)

Surely it is an evil abode and (evil) place to stay”

رَبَّنَا اصرِف عَنّا عَذابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذابَها كانَ غَرامًا ﴿٦٥﴾ إِنَّها ساءَت مُستَقَرًّا وَمُقامًا

Rabbana isrif anna azaaba jahannama

 inna azaabaha kaana gharaama

 innaha saa at mustaqarran wa muqaama

 28:  ”O our Lord! grant us in our wives and

our offspring the joy of our eyes and

make us guides to those who guard (against evil)”

رَبَّنا هَب لَنا مِن أَزوٰجِنا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنا قُرَّةَ أَعيُنٍ وَاجعَلنا لِلمُتَّقينَ إِمامًا

Rabbana hab lana min azwaajinaa wa zurriyyaatina

qurrata aAAyunin wajAAalnaa lilmuttaqeena imaamaa
Surah Furqan summary
The surah discusses the following:
