The surah begins by describing the Day of Judgment when the earth will shake violently, and all beings will be brought before Allah for judgment. The surah emphasizes that no deed, no matter how small, will go unnoticed on that day. Even the weight of an atom’s worth of good or bad deeds will be taken into account.
In the second half of the surah, it is mentioned that those who have done good deeds will see the reward of their efforts, while those who have done evil will face the consequences of their actions. The surah also describes the punishment of the disbelievers, who will be thrown into Hell.
Surah Zilzal highlights the importance of doing good deeds and living a righteous life and warns against the consequences of ignoring Allah’s commands.

Surah al-Zalzalah or as some call it Zilzal means earthquake, there are discussions about whether it was revealed in Meccan or early Medinan. But it is believed that it was revealed in Madinah based on the subject matter of the surah.

Until now there is no agreement on when surah az zilzal ( Arabic: الزلزلة ) was revealed, however, based on the topic that the surah discusses it was revealed in the Madinah.

What is the subject matter of surah zilzal?
The subject matter of surah al zalzalah is divided into three parts, which are:
1-Signs of the Hereafter.
2-The earth is a witness to the deeds of man.
3-People are divided into good and evil, receiving the fruit of their actions.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيم
In the name of Allah, the most compassionate, most merciful
إِذا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ زِلْزالَها ﴿1﴾
When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
وَ أَخْرَجَتِ الْأَرْضُ أَثْقالَها ﴿2﴾
and the earth discharges its burdens,
وَ قالَ الْإِنْسانُ ما لَها ﴿3﴾
and man says, “What is [wrong] with it?”
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبارَها ﴿4﴾
That Day, it will report its news
بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحى لَها ﴿5﴾
Because your Lord has commanded it.
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَصْدُرُ النَّاسُ أَشْتاتاً لِيُرَوْا أَعْمالَهُم ﴿6﴾
That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْراً يَرَهُ ﴿7﴾
So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it,
وَ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ ﴿8﴾
and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.
From verses 1 to 5 the surah talks about the judgment day asx the earth will shake, Put Forth All Its Burdens, it will report its news. surah zalzalah is madania. It is the seven-surah revealed in the city of Medina. It is the 99th surah of the Quran and it is found in the last juz, chapter 30 with only 8 verses.
Some say that it was revealed in the year eight after Hijra.
How can I learn surah az zilzal?
Read the whole surah once then read the first verse and repeat it a couple of times then try to recite it without looking and when you successfully move on to the next verse and repeat the process.
Keep doing that until you memorize the whole surah.

Here are the Benefits of Reciting Surah al-Zalzalah:
In a narration from Imam Sadiq:
“Do not become tired of reciting surah al-Zalzalah for one who recites this surah in one’s recommended prayers, will not be touched by the harms of an earthquake; moreover he will not die of an earthquake, lightning, or otherworldly harms. Once he passes away, he is taken to heaven and God says to him, ‘my servant! Choose whatever place you desire’.”
Imam Ridha narrated that the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said
“The recitation of surah al-Zalzalah has been considered equal to reciting one-fourth of the Quran and reciting it four times is equivalent to reciting the entire Quran.”
Also, it is said the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
“He who recites two units of prayers on Friday eve and in each unit, after reciting Fatihatul Kitab, recites surah al-Zalzalah fifteen times, God will immune him from the punishment of the grave and the frightful hardships of the hereafter.“
What is the meaning of surah az zilzal?
First, let’s take a look at the surah.

Surah zilzal Tafseer
The surah shows us what will happen on the day of judgment, as the earth shakes really strongly. An earthquake that we have never seen like before and it will throw up all its burdens. And the earth will become a witness to us humans and all the actions that we have committed.
Then all humans will be judged for everything that they have ever done in their lives, good deeds, and bad deeds or sins no matter how small it is. Even the things that we thought were nothing. As Allah says “and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”
From surah zalzaal we learn that the day of judgment is not an easy day and that we will be held accountable for everything we have committed in our lives no matter how small we thought it was. That’s why we should spend our lives trying to do good deeds and stay away from doing anything that Allah and the prophet instructed us to stay away from.
We also learn from surah Al-Zalzalah that there is nothing called I committed a small sin that I will not be judged for. Anything you do whether a good deed or bad deed you think it’s nothing you will be accounted for.
