It is not just a religious book but a way of life that molds the moral, spiritual, and day-to-day practical life of the individual.
Light guides one to a way of ‘the good life,’ one rich in meaning, and wisdom about every facet of living, from the regulation of personal conduct and family relationships to matters of social justice and business ethics.
Through daily prayers, personal reflection, and community rituals, the depth of the Qur’an is stitched into the life of the Muslim. It offers consolation, incitement, and a universal message beyond space and time.
What is the Importance of The Quran in Our Life?
The Holy Quran is of utmost importance in every single Muslim’s life because it is the word of God (Allah) revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, over 1400 years ago. This can be measured from the following aspects:
Guidance for Life: Nothing that humans are supposed to experience, such as enumerable elements of personal life, family life, social interactions, morality, and justice, is left without proper guidance in the Quran.
In this regard, it is a compass of behavior by which one can identify between right and wrong.
Spiritual: Reading and reflecting on the Quran brings one closer to Allah. There is spiritual solace, peace, and fulfillment that any Muslim individual finds within themself as they try to relate to the divine through supplication, meditation, and reflection.
Law and Morality: The Quran provides principal bases; adherents describe it as the primary source of Islamic Law.
It dictates the duties and rights of individuals both in the moral and legal world, providing direction toward a liberal and just society by the observance of cardinal virtues that include but are not limited to honesty, charity, and justice.
Knowledge and Wisdom: The Quran is a book of knowledge from which a large amount of wisdom on definite and other subjects can be derived; these include theology, philosophy, history, and sciences.
It incites the gain of knowledge and reflection over and over again on the natural world as proof of Allah’s creation.
Universal Message: Universal in its voice, the Quran speaks to humanity, irrespective of race, nationality, or time.
It is a call to worship one God, work for justice, and build a society of equality, mercy, and compassion.
Hope and Resilience: It is during hard times that, from the reluctant verses of the Quran, a Muslim might find much-needed reassurance for hope and resilience, that tomorrow shall be a brighter day.
Unity and Identity: The Quran is what provides the dispersed units of the Muslim ummah with a point of unity and a shared faith base.
Again, besides continuing as the ever-flowing source of their faith and a center of their identity, it constitutes an ideal and absolute code of life for a Muslim, based on ordinary thinking, acting, and life conduct in all spheres of life.
The Holy Quran is not a religious book for Muslims, rather, it is an absolute code of life, which guides the way of thinking, acting, and life pattern in every department of living.
How is the Quran Used in Everyday Life?
The focus of life for Muslims is the Holy Quran, which influences their actions, thoughts, and spiritual practice. Here are ways it is used in everyday life:
Prayers: From the five daily prayers comes the recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran within each of the daily prayers.
The first chapter of the Holy Quran is read in each unit of salah, along with other selected verses or chapters.
This frequent repetition allows a Muslim to always stay close to the Holy Quran and its teachings.
Tilawah: A good number of Muslims read or recite the Quran throughout the day in Arabic or translation as a period to be spent with self-reflection for their spiritual growth.
This is called Tilawah and is believed to bring serenity, light, and blessings in life. Many Muslims target completing the recitation of this holy book over a given period, like during the month of Ramadan.
Personal Life: Another application of the Quran by Muslims concerns moral or personal problems that occur in their daily lives.
They refer to the Quran as a guide, reading certain verses for the relevant issues, or they seek the guidance of scholars to interpret the teachings of the Quran to address the problem appropriately.
Education and Learning: It is taught and learned in schools and at homes in religious education.
Children, from their tender ages, are usually taught how to read and memorize pieces in the Quran. This guides them in the language and imprints the teachings and values of the Quran.
Ceremonial and Ritual Use: At important junctures of life such as weddings and funerals and during the performance of other rituals, the Holy Quran is recited.
To their belief, recitation of Qur’anic verses invokes for them Allah’s blessings, protection, and mercy.
Moral and Ethical Decision-Making: Muslims base their actions in every aspect of life on the teachings of the Quran in personal relationships, business dealings, or interactions with others within their community.
The principles emanating from the Quran, honesty, fairness, and compassion, define their conduct and actions.
Protection and Healing: According to a good number of Muslims, the Quran holds the power of protection and healing.
Verses such as Ayat al-Kursi are usually quoted in the case of seeking protection from harm or evil, and Surah Al-Falaq, Surah Al-Nas. Some also use the Quran for spiritual healing, seeking comfort and solace from any kind of emotional or physical distress.
Ramadan and Special Occasions: During the holy month of Ramadan, their affinity with the Quran only gets surcharged.
During this month, many people read the whole Quran every night in prayer, known as Tarawih. It is also more readily recited on special occasions, particularly on the nights of Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadan when the Quran is surmised to be revealed.
Hifz: Some Muslims use the time given to memorize the Quran, known as Hifz. Those who have memorized the whole Quran are called with the title of Hafiz.
Memorization is highly respected in the Muslim community and is often viewed as a lifelong spiritual achievement.
Guidance in Social and Family Life: In this respect, the Quran prescribes, to Muslims, all forms of guidance in maintaining their family and social life, particularly marriage, parenting, and treatment of other persons.
Here, Muslims turn for an assurance that their dealings and actions are within the parameters of the teachings of Islam.
The Quran in such a manner is enmeshed in the life of a Muslim, providing inspiration, guidance, and solace in an uninterrupted measure.
