In the English language, people refer to Surah al-Qadr as The Power or The Fate. You can find it in the 30th Juz, and it consists of five verses.
What is the meaning of Surah al-Qadr?
To begin with, here is the English interpretation of Surah al-Qadr.
Indeed, we’ve revealed it during the Night of Decree, and how will you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is? The Night of Power is more beneficial than one thousand months. The angels and the Ruh descend there by the permission of their Lord for every matter.
Peace reigns until dawn breaks. The Surah discusses the significance of the Night of Power, which has the power to alter our destiny. This Surah reveals the indications of Laylat al-Qadr. What happens on the night of Laylatul Qadr? Well, here are the signs of Laylatul Qadr.
1- The sun won’t have any rays when it rises in the morning. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said this, according to Ubayy (RA): “The sun rises without rays after Laylatul-Qadr.” It looks like a brass dish until it rises. [Muslim Ibn Majah Abu Dawud Tirmithi].
2- The night will be peaceful and calm. Ibn ‘Abbaas (RA) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said Lailatul-Qadr is peaceful and nice. He said it has a mild morning when the sun rises. Ibn Khuzaimah and al-Bazzaar with a good chain of narration.
3- The seawater will taste sweet. One Sahaabi, Ab’da bin Abi Lubaaba, says: “On the evening of the 27th, I tasted the seawater, and it was sweet.” Ayub bin Khalid said: “I once had to bathe with seawater, and found it sweet. This was on the 23rd night.”
4- Rain might fall during either that night or the next night.
5- The sky is either cloudless or veiled by a thin mist.
6- The sky is lit with no reflection and it has rays.
When and where was Surah Qadr revealed?
It is one of the first surahs revealed to the Prophet at Makkah.
How many times should you read Surah Qadr?
You can read it seven times on the Night of Power so that Allah forgives all the sins that you’ve committed in the past.
Also, we should read it seven times a day before going to bed to heal from any disease and prevent poverty.
When to read Surah Qadr?
You can read it at any time. Muslim scholars recommend reading Surah Qadr seven times on Laylatul Qadr. This is to ask Allah for forgiveness.
Why was Surah Qadr revealed?
During Ramadan, Allah sent down Surah Qadr to highlight its significance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reportedly had a dream. In it, Banu Ummaya was standing on his minbar. This made him feel sorrowful. To boost the morale of the Prophet, Allah sent down this surah.
Is Surah Qadr Makki or Madani?
The surah is a Makki surah.
Benefits of Surah Qadr.
Reading this surah protects you from poverty. It works for money, health, or any other issue. Reciting this surah during Ramadan purifies one’s heart. According to another belief, reading it seven times before going to bed will keep you safe. Reading it after making one wudu counts you among the Siddique. Reading it twice following wudu will mark the reader as a martyr. And on the Day of Judgment, those who repeat it three times after making wudu will be with the Prophet. Also, if you’ve read Surah Qadr three times before bed, it will protect you from evil whispers. Believers think that reciting it stops vision from getting worse. They think this if you look up at the sky. Additionally, it will do so.

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ ٱلْقَدْرِ
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ
لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ
سَلَٰمٌ هِىَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ

Indeed, it’s we who sent this Quran down on the Night of Glory.
And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is?
The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.
That night, the angels and the Holy Spirit descend by their Lord’s permission. They come for every decreed matter.
It’s all peaceful until the break of dawn.
Which surah to read on Laylatul Qadr?
Reciting Surah Qadr on this night earns great merit. It has many advantages. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) compared reciting it to fasting in Ramadan. He also compared it to worshipping on Laylat al-Qadr.
Imams Ja’far as-Sadiq and Ali (PBUH) explained more advantages of reciting the Surah. These include forgiveness of sins, protection, and spiritual growth.
Hadith on al-Qadr surah.
Aisha (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Look for the Night of Decree in the odd nights. They are among the last ten nights of Ramadan.”
Anas ibn Malik (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “This month has come to you. There is a night within it that is better than a thousand months. Anyone deprived of it has lost all good. No one loses good unless they suffer total loss.”
Aisha (RA) reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say during it?” The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Say: O Allah, you are pardoning. You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
Laylat al-Qadr is a prayer.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr believes in Allah’s reward. They will have their past sins forgiven. Confirmed.
Also, Aisha reported that she said to the Prophet: “O Prophet of Allah! If I am blessed to witness Laylatul Qadr, what should I be praying?” The Prophet replied: “Say: ‘O Allah, you pardon and love to pardon, so pardon me.'” It means, O Allah, the Most Powerful!
